As pet parents, we all want the best for our dogs—whether it’s nutritious food, a safe home, or a calm and happy life. Natural wellness goes beyond just feeding high-quality meals; it includes emotional well-being, physical health, and a toxin-free environment. One simple yet effective way to support your dog naturally is by using essential oils.

In this post, we’ll cover:

  •  How essential oils can benefit your dog
  •  A calming diffuser blend your pup will love
  •  Other natural wellness tips to keep your dog happy and healthy

How Essential Oils Can Benefit Your Dog

Essential oils, when used correctly, can support dogs in many ways:

  • Calming & Stress Relief – Oils like Lavender and Chamomile can help with separation anxiety, loud noises, or stressful situations.
  • Immune & Respiratory Support – Frankincense and Cedarwood can assist in overall immune health and clear breathing.
  • Skin & Coat Health – Oils like Helichrysum and Copaiba can be soothing for skin issues.

Tip: Always choose 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils and introduce them gradually to see how your dog responds.

Ruby’s Favorite Calming Blend

Meet Ruby, our resident Greyhound and demo dog at Greener Hound!  One of her favorite blends for relaxation is:

  • 3 drops of Lavender
  • 2 drops of Cedarwood
  • 1 drop of Frankincense

     How to Use It:

  • Diffuse in a well-ventilated room
  • Dilute with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) and apply to your hands before gently petting your dog
  • Create a calming spray by mixing it with water and a little witch hazel in a mist bottle

Reminder: Always ensure your dog has a way to leave the room when using a diffuser. Not all oils are safe for pets, so do your research or consult a pet-safe essential oil expert.

More Natural Wellness Tips for Your Dog

  • Fresh, Whole Foods: Adding fruits and vegetables to your dog’s diet can provide extra vitamins and antioxidants. Try blueberries, carrots, or pumpkin for a tasty and nutritious boost!
  • Clean, Chemical-Free Environment: Avoid synthetic fragrances, harsh cleaners, and toxic flea treatments. Instead, opt for natural solutions like essential oil-based sprays.
  • Mental Stimulation & Enrichment: Interactive toys, sniff walks, and training exercises keep your dog’s brain engaged and reduce stress.
  • Massage & Touch Therapy: Just like humans, dogs benefit from gentle massages. Try a calming raindrop technique using pet-safe oils to promote relaxation.
